Welcome

Studio Landscape      15.06.2012

Dear all
Here is a résumé of the various studios that will run for the next academic year.  A number of studios have come together to pool resources and utilize a common teaching base. Others are new. Some are double studios. All however have come from positive collaboration with teaching staff to ensure even better choices for all our Master’s students.
I personally look forward to be part of the KA studio landscape that we believe we not only have given initiatives and expertise here at the school a teaching forum, but also contributes one step further in our collective aim of competing at a high level on the International stage.

Studio 1

Focus (A)CDC – Architecture, Context, Development and Construction
Focus (B) – Building Design/Bygningskunst

This studio is the collaboration between 3 platforms (M&SE, Digital tectonics and Context). It is a constellation that has grown from the platform’s own initiatives. This is an opportunity for M&SE and Digital tectonics to embrace contextual issues, and for context to establish knowledge of material and tectonics.
The students will be asked to choose, when they join this studio, whether they would like to focus on, a. Architecture, Context, Development and Construction, or b. Building Design/Bygningskunst, so is essentially a double studio working and sharing knowledge.

Studio Perspectives on Transformation.

Focus A – Transformation and restoration - existing buildings
Focus B – Question of perspectives – building, beyond scale and built structures

This studio is the collaboration between 2 Platforms (Cultural Heritage and Nordic Perspectives). This too is a constellation that has developed from discussions between Platforms. Again the students choosing this studio will be asked to choose, when they join this studio, whether they would like to focus on, a. building transformation/restoration, or b. building and town, so is essentially a double studio working and sharing knowledge as the studio above.

Studio Constructing an Archive

This studio is a studio coming from Platform Experiment and is a joint studio in collaboration with The Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), located in Beijing, China. The plan so far is to spend about 6 weeks this coming semester in Beijing with our students and then the Chinese students come to us in the spring 2013 semester.

Studio Parable Landscape

This studio is the collaboration between 2 Platforms (Urban Landscape and Spatial Intelligence). This studio will focus on the future development at Ringkøbing K. RealDania are in the process of developing a strategy of developing a 85 hectare area outside Ringkøbing for housing with a special focus (amongst others) on creating homes that respect a strong landscape focus.

Studio Urban Design

This studio is a studio coming from Platform Urban Landscape and will operate as a satellite studio to Studio Parable Landscape. The intention is that students share a studio space and share some of the study programme. There is also an initiative for collaboration with Studio Design around the theme Beyond Scale, an initiative started last year.

Studio Design

This studio is a studio coming from Platform Design. This studio is a continuation of this year’s studio. They will however be working together with Studio Urban Design on the Beyond Scale theme for a single, joint assignment.

Studio Theory translations in architecture

This studio is a continuation of the studio history and theory. It comes from Platform History and Theory. The Platform will also be asked to deliver a theory seminar again for all KA students in the spring.

Studio Spatial Transformations

This is another collaboration, (fusion), this time within the Platform Spatial Intelligence, of 2 studios, namely ReDesign and Sustainable Transformation. The two studios have joined forces and are interested in establishing a studio that focuses on architectural design that is seen as an ongoing transformation of our habitable, physical surroundings as a continual transformation of existing architectural concepts and typologies.

Studio M:A:D

This is a continuation of the current studio and is a studio coming from the Platform Architectural Workshop.

Studio Approaching Sustainability

This is a continuation of the current studio and is a studio coming from the Platform Sustainability.

Studio A_Practice

This studio is a continuation of studio A that braces the overlap between education and practice – and the interaction between realism and vision. The principle themes will be sustainable habitation models within urban design contexts and will focus upon the connection between Østjylland and Sjælland, via Samsø. As a parallel this studio will also take on responsiblity of establishing better practice links across the school.

Studio SmartCities

The SmartCity is an innovative holistic vision of an urban future from an architectural perspective with ecological symbiosis between nature and built form, questioning the commonly received notion of urban community 'wealth'. The stimulus of the studio will derive from the current body of scientific knowledge regarding impacts of climate change on cities as well as postulated scenarios and processes gleaned from futurology and science fiction.

This studio landscape is current, as of today's date. Changes will probably, and can be made when the situation of future employment here at the school has been finalised from 1st August.
